Look out point at Duhatao - Chepu trail

SENDERO DE CHILE - CHILEAN TRAIL

Chepu is part of the Sendero de Chile , route Mar Brava to Rio Metalqui, which connects Duhatao and Chepu.  

We provide information on  different routes of Trail.   Also provide assistance on information and boat availability to cross Chepu River required to continue on route to Ahuenco getting close to Parque Nacional de Chiloé (Chiloé National Park).

 

 

Route :  Duhatao - Chepu

Timing : 5 hours app. Slow walk.

Difficulty : Medium – High, depending on the season. Trail gets too muddy   with winter rains.

Best Date : December through March.

Trail Condition :  At present Trail is under construction, but there is a path used by local people. After rain the trail gets too muddy and slippery.  Path easy to follow due to use by local people.    First part goes through evergreen forest plenty of young trees and wildlife (NO large or dangerous animals or insects), then continues through Aulín Beach until Chepu River mouth.

Route :  Chepu - Ahuenco

Timing : 5 hours app. Slow walk.

Difficulty : Medium-High, depending of the season. When it has been too rainy, the trail gets too muddy.

Best Season : December through March

This route of Chilean Trail begins by boat crossing Chepu River to its south mouth.    First stage take you to Huevil Beach, then you continue through beaches, cliffs, evergreen forests, rocks, mud and beaches.   Close to Ahuenco you see Metalqui island and Ahuenco Penguin Colony.

 DUHATAO - CHEPU - CHILEAN TRAIL    :

                              


The area of Chepu Valley is naturally designed for trekking, surrounded by very different landscapes: rivers, evergreen forest, wetlands, dunes, beaches and a long shore to the Pacific Ocean.

Chepu is center point for the trekking trails between Duhatao and Metalqui, along the coast.

Guide  & Private Transportation available upon request.


Suggested:

  • Waterproof clothing and shoes.
  • Insect repellent (deet based) useful in January and February due to presence of horseflies in the south of Chile.
  • Sun Screen
  • Carry  food and water for your trekking.
  • Do not light fire on the way.
